The Beaches

The San Diego area has so many beaches to explore, it may be difficult to get them all in. Favorite beaches include:

  • Mission Bay
  • Del Mar
  • Pacific Beach

  • Coronado

Other beaches include Imperial Beach, Moonlight Beach, Oceanside, Ocean Beach, and Fletcher Cove. San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is the highlight of Balboa Park and is a 100-acre zoo that features more than 3,800 animals comprising 800 different species. There’s also a plant collection of more than 6.500 species.

SeaWorld
With more than 100 acres, SeaWorld is one of the largest marine amusement parks. It is also one of San Diego’s most popular attractions with its shows featuring sea lions, dolphins, whales, and water ski stunts.

Balboa Park
While it may not be San Diego’s largest park, Balboa Park was recently recognized as the best urban park in the Americas. It features gorgeous buildings and many landscaped gardens. You don’t want to miss the Botanical Building, which made Balboa famous!

Gaslamp Quarter
The Gaslamp is a 16-block area full of restaurants, shops, and stunning Victorian-era buildings. Right next to the marina, across the street from Petco Park, this area features nearly 100 historic buildings, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

San Diego Harbor Excursion
See the San Diego Bay and skyline from a harbor tour from one of the most established cruise companies. There are one- or two-hour tours available, as well as a ferry trip to Coronado Island. You can also choose a dinner and dance cruise.

Explore the Neighborhoods
Exploring San Diego’s neighborhoods is a great way to get to know the unique culture and history of the city. Neighborhoods to visit include:

  • Little Italy
  • North Park
  • Hillcrest and University Heights
  • Del Mar and La Jolla

San Diego Zoo Safari Park
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is an expansive wildlife sanctuary that features more than 2,600 animals and a renowned botanical collection. More than half of the Park is a protected native species habitat.

Birch Aquarium at Scripps
Explore the wonders of the ocean at the Birch Aquarium, which is an exploration center at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. It is located on a bluff overlooking the ocean, and features approximately 60 species of fish and invertebrates from around the world.

San Diego Natural History Museum
This museum is dedicated to interpreting the world through exhibits, research, and education to promote the understanding of the diversity and evolution of the Southern California area.
